Google Now Incorporating Cloud Based Prediction API to Smart-Fill Your Spreadsheets

Google Now Incorporating Cloud Based Prediction API to Smart-Fill Your SpreadsheetsGoogle’s latest is an Add-on that uses machine learning to make predictions in Google Sheets. Dubbed Smart Autofill, the add-on uses the already available spreadsheet data to learn patterns and predicts the missing entries. It is unlike the standard “Autofill” feature of Sheets, which is capable of filling in simple values like calendar dates, days of the week, ordered numbers, etc. Prediction API is Google’s cloud based machine learning service, utilizing which, the add-on trains several linear as well as non-linear classification and regression models, explains Google’s Research Blog. The model with the smallest misclassification error (for categorical data) or root-mean-squared error (for numeric data) which is calculated by using cross-validation on the labeled (non-empty) set of examples, is selected automatically. “The accuracy of Smart Autofill (as well as the...

What is a Data Warehouse?

What is a Data WarehouseWhen you mention “data warehouse” to someone not acquainted with the term, the first image that springs to their minds is usually something like the one above. When in fact, it actually looks a little more like this: A data warehouse is, on the highest level, a central repository of data. This might not be all that illuminating at first glance, but if you unpack it, there’s a lot of information to be found here. “Subject-Oriented”: Contrary to what many people believe when first hearing the term, a data...

Personal Data App PrivacyCan you imagine a world without smartphones? In this day and age, the answer is a resounding ‘no’. One of the reasons for this is how profoundly we rely on apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to name but a few. These apps connect us with friends, family or even strangers, be they across the globe or around the corner via a variety of novelty mediums. To tap into such services, users must first sign up. The pesky asterisk deems your full name, email, date of birth as compulsory information, but also often gender, a ZIP/postal code, address, phone number and – if you are using a subscription service – bank card details. This is easily enough information to create a sketchy profile on any individual –  and that...
