Raimund Bau is a serial entrepreneur who believes in disrupting retail with AI. Together with a
team of 35 tech and industry experts, Raimund is building the largest retail media platform in
Europe as CEO of Schwarz Media Plattform GmbH (SMP), a Schwarz Group company (owner of
Lidl and Kaufland). SMP emerged from the acquisition of Segment of One GmbH, formerly
known as SO1 GmbH, of which Raimund was founder and CEO for 8 years. In total, he combines
more than 12 years of experience in mathematical models and AI research with extensive
knowledge of retail and fast moving consumer goods industry.
Raimund started his career at Henkel, where he was part of the management team for the
largest European laundry detergent brand Persil. Alongside his management career, he worked
on his Ph.D. thesis together with academic and industry researchers to build better
mathematical models to predict individual shopping behavior. Raimund co-founded a FMCG
consulting firm which he sold successfully in 2012. Since then he works relentlessly to make the
vision of truly individualized and impactful marketing become reality by combining machine
learning and retailer data.
